Hemptons’ founder entered the hemp industry in 1998 and established Hemptons South Africa in 2001, with the first products launched in 2002. At a time when hemp was still largely unfamiliar to mainstream consumers and industry, Hemptons began developing products and brands, navigating evolving regulatory environments and building relationships with manufacturers and commercial partners across multiple markets.

Over more than two decades, this work has created a body of practical knowledge and intellectual property spanning hemp food, beverage, nutrition and personal care. Some of the brands developed along the way remain part of the Hemptons portfolio today, while others have contributed to the experience and knowledge from which new ventures have evolved.

In 2025, Hemptons consolidated its group structure in Ireland, establishing Hemptons Investment Holdings Ltd. as its European base. From Ireland, the group manages its intellectual property and brand portfolio and pursues selected commercial partnerships and new opportunities.

While the portfolio includes consumer brands, Hemptons’ longer-term interests extend further into the hemp value chain, including food and beverage processing, fibre and energy generation — with a focus on developing the infrastructure and capabilities required to support the broader commercial potential of hemp.
